State of the Guard - July 7, 2010

I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer so far!

In the last State of the Guard, I talked about the formation of the City of Heroes chapter of the Silver Guard. The opening story using the Mission Architect was a fun and successful venture, but there have been a number of setbacks that have kept the chapter from taking off. Due to financial issues, Kedavra (and myself) are unable to keep up the subscription. The torch of leadership has been passed to Whispering Ibis/CometFlare. In the absence of a core group of players, plans for the CoH chapter have been halted for the time being. Active recruiting is on hold until a core group can be established, however existing Silver Guard members can contact Ibis or Kydd about joining.

On the Champions Online side of things, though, we are working at moving forward. There are currently three vacant leadership positions: Events Officer, Provisional Members Officer and the Social and Recruitment Leader. As I posted last week, we are looking to fill those positions in the next few weeks. We have come a long way as a supergroup since January, and we are steadily growing stronger. Filling these key positions will help us take those next steps forward. If you would be willing to serve in one of these roles--or would like to nominate someone you think would be a good fit--please let me know via PM.

The "Hero's Log" forum is now up and running. From an in-character perspective, these entries are accessible to all Silver Guard members and can provide you with in-character knowledge even if you were not present for an event. It can also let others know when you have something going on that they may want to get involved in. The concept has room to evolve, and I hope we continue to see that forum being used. Feel free to expand or modify the formats to what suits your story best!

We've had some very successful team events this past month, including Iron Bull's Big Game Hunt and a run through the Serpent's Lantern content. The poll to evaluate the best night for team events seems to be consistent with what we already have in place, so we will continue to reserve Wednesday night for those events. We have also had several unscheduled events on other nights just for fun and for furthering story arcs, though, so if you are not able to make the regular Wednesday night gathering I hope you have been able to take part on other nights. As always, if you wish to add an event or story note to the calendar, please let one of the Officers/Leaders know.

There has also been some promising news from Cryptic about the next update, tentatively scheduled for August. They are adding supergroup tools and increasing the functionality in-game to make sharing information easier. I am hopeful that it will give us some of the tools we have really been lacking and make things more efficient all around.

In the meantime, Strobe has done some work on our Wiki here at GuildLaunch. It is still a work in progress, but we'd love to see more of your stories and character information as time goes on. I'll also be working on our page at the PRIMUS Database site and looking for other ways to promote the Silver Guard.

But the best promotion of who we are will always be our members as we are out in the game world. So get out there and have fun!
